Smart Charging in new smart fortwo ED

CarMedialab is Daimler AG’S integration partner for intelligent charging management in the new smart fortwo electric drive. The specially developed functionality was first implemented in the smart fortwo electric drive at eMobility in Berlin, a joint project between Daimler and RWE.

 It makes charging electricity even easier and more convenient than filling up with fuel today. All that is required are easy technical handling (Plug & Charge) and the automatic exchange of information between the vehicle and the charging station during charging – as simple as for a mobile phone.

If the vehicle and the charging station are in contact via the charging cable, the electronics on board the smart fortwo electric drive and at the charging point can exchange all relevant information with the power network, such as identification data for electricity contracts.

The charging process is automatically activated only if the personal ID is recognised. This means that billing, for example, can be done easily, conveniently and, of course, securely. At the same time data protection is ensured in all processes through the encryption and anonymisation of customer data.
